Losing Control: Managing Behavior Using a 5 Point Scale
Presented By Nichole O’Donnell, BCaBA
Managing behavior is offend a parent’s top priority for their child. While intensive behavior plans and trained professionals are highly successful at managing and reducing these behaviors, these types of interventions are not always sustainable in the natural environment and with caregivers. Using a 5 point scale can be beneficial for many reasons including:
– Helping all caregivers handle behavior consistently and across multiple people
– Systematizing rewards and consequences tied to observable behavior
– Self monitoring for individuals who can learn to self monitor
– Giving caregivers and individuals the language to discuss emotions and behavior
In this workshop we will discuss the basic components of a 5 point scale and work together to create one for your individual. We will also discuss tother ways to use the 5 point scale to mange things like voice volume, anxiety and relationships.
